Hello Kahunas, I hope you all had a very good weekend, beccause I sure did. I have so much to tell you. If there is too much, then maybe Miss Cavanaugh will have to just tell part of it now and part later because your school lessons are very important.
I stayed in Golden Colorado in a beautiful campground next to a river. There was lots of snow on the ground so I made a snow angel. Do you know how to do that? I walked around the town and saw lots of statues. I went by a huge factory that makes beer. I did not go in because I am no old enough and I don't think I would like the taste. I saw the building that once was the Capitol of Colorado. Now the capitol is in Denver. Do you know that Denver is called The mile high city? Can you figure out why?
Next I drove up a very winding road. The road was called, The Lariat Trail. Try to figure out what a lariat is and why that was a good name for the road. At the top was The Buffalo Bill Grave and Museum. Buffalo Bill was born in 1846 and was named William Cody. He herded cattle, worked on a wagon train, mined for gold, rode in the Pony Express and scouted for the army. he hunted Buffalo for the army so the soldiers could have meat. He was such a good hunter, they changed his name to Buffalo Bill. When he got too old to hunt he had a Wild West show that traveled all over the world to show people what The American west was like. There was no such thing as television or airplanes then. He had to bring Indians, and horses and trick riders and cowboys all on big ships. He even did shows for The Queen of England.
It was cold on the mountain when I climbed up to his grave. he wanted to be buried there at the top of the mountains that he loved. Then I went part way down the mountain to his museum. There were lots of things to see there. There were his saddles, and clothes and guns and even a stuffed buffalo. They are very big animals. I got to dress up and pretend to be a cowboy. The boots were a little big for me. Here are some pictures of what I have seen.
We do know what a snow angel is, a few of us have even made one! Denver is called the mile high city because it's so high off the ground, in the Colorado Rockies! No one knew what a Lariat was, so we googled it! We read the definition and looked at pictures, and discovered it is a lasso! The pictures were nice and everyone liked them!
