Hi Kahunas, I was still in Kansas and went to Atchison to a railroad museum. I saw a railroad worker statue and inside I saw an old washtub and an old washing machine. I don't think I would like to work
so hard to scrub my clothes. I am glad I can put my clothes in a new machine and just push buttons.
I saw a switchboard for using telephones. You could not just pick up a little phone. You had to have an operator connect your phone with somone else. They would put wires into the holes to make the telephones work. Then I saw a mask of Abraham Lincoln. It was made before he was our President. They put a kind of clay on his face and he had to hold very still until it got hard and the artist could pull it off.
Then I went to the home of Amelia Earhart. She was a very famous woman pilot. I think she was borrn in 1897. She was born in her grandmother and grandfather's house. At the time she was borrn, most people were born at home, not in a hospital. I took a picture of the brown wooden bed she was born in. There was a bigg music box. People did not have ipods or cds to listen to. I saw her blue bathing suit. It did not look very comfortable . There was a model of the red airplane that was her favorite. Then I saw the silver plane that she was ggoing to fly around the world. There was a picture of her leaving Oakland, Calif to begin her flight. Then I went upstairs and saw her bedroom from when she was a little girl. I saw her white metal bed and I sat in her little chair.
After that I went to a very diferent park. It was called the Amelia Earhart Earthworks. An artist took rocks and many different kinds of plants and made a portrait of Amelia Earharts face. I had a problem because monkeys cannot fly. I could not really see the picture he made because even though I could touch the plants, you ha to be up in the sky to see the whole thing. The artist attached a camera to a balloon to take pictues of the face. You can also see it if you are in an airplane. If I was a flying monkey like in oz, then I would be able to see it. Ask Miss Cavanaugh to look on her computer to see the face.
I went up highway 29 and into another state and then anotther state and ended up in Glenwood Iowa at a friends house. What states did I have to go though to get here? There were four. I slept in their house and in the middle of the night I woke up to see thunder and lightening. I like to see lightening and I like to hear the loud noise thunder makes, but I also like to be in a warm cozy house. When I woke up, my friends made me a good breakfast with oatmeal and blueberries and melon and milk and honey. My monkey tummy was very full and happy.
The next day I went to Omaha to see the Joslyn Museum. There are many famous paintings and statues there. And the was a lot o beautiful colored glass by an artist called Chahuly. I found a gallery with a name I recognized. A gallery is a big room with art in it. Can anyone in the class read the name of the gallery? There wer beautiful indian clothes with beads all over them. There were two really big paintings. Can you find me in the pictures? I met some children that were there with their teachers to learn about art. I found a big piece of art that was made with all differnt silver things that you might find in a kitchen. Do you remember when I said I like to make art with different things? I found a little white clay model of an indian and horse and outside was a big statue made of metal of the same indian and horse.
I went to a restaurant called Shucks. It was a seafood restaurant. Shucking is a word for opening up shells with oysters inside. I like to eat oysters. I think if I keep eating all this good food I will be a very chubby monkey when I get home.
My last stop today was at Boys Town. This is a place that boys and also girls can live. There are houses and classrooms and churches and places to play. It is a very happy place. They made a giantt ball all made of postage stamps. I got to sit on it. I don't know what I will do tommorow because I don't know if it will be snowing here. I am going to bed now to have good dreams. Aloha Kahunas
Hi Junior!
ReplyDeleteWe tried to find the four states on the map. We found Highway 29, but we saw that it goes through Missouri and into Iowa. What were the other states you went through? We are excited to see the pictures!
