Hi Kahunas, here is some more map work for you.I spent the night in Springfield Ohio. I woke up and played on the beach with two dogs. They liked to have a stick thrown in the water and then they would swim out and get it. Then I played in the park. I wanted to run around a lot because I knew I would be driving a lot and monkeys have lots of energy and don't like just sitting. Do any of you like to sit still for long rides? Cmor drove south down highway 75 through two big cities. One was called Cincinnati. It had a big building that looked like a rocket ship on top. Then we crossed the border into another state. What was it? I stayed at a state park called Big Bone Lick. Animals like minerals to eat, especially salt. When they find a place with lots of minerals they lick the ground and that place is called a lick. Our campground had a very old cemetery. It was for a family that lived there in the 1800's. Their name was Baker. When I looked at the old gravestones, I saw that one had a funny shape. Remember the name and try to guess what shape I saw.
Then I went for a walk along the trail called Bone Lick. Thousands of years ago this place was all mushy and soft with mud hiding under all the plants. It was full of minerals. The pioneers called the ground Jelly dirt. Giant animals came to lick the ground and some of them were so heavy, they sank into the mud and could not get out. There were many bones of these giant animals found here and that is why it is called Big Bone Lick. There were bison here and I found out I had been calling them the wrong name. I called them buffalo. Buffalo are African animals and live in and near water. These animals in our country are called Bison. I like learning new things. There were huge models of a mastodon and a Mammoth and even a Giant Sloth. These animals are all extinct now but what relative do we see in the zoo now that looks like them?
I went into the Museum and saw a real skull of a Mastodon. It was very big. I got to touch real teeth. I bet their toothbrushes were huge.
Next we went to a town called Louisville. Does anyone in your class like baseball? I went to the factory where they make more bats than anyone else. Can you see me at the bottom of the giant bat?
Inside I saw statues of famous baseball players. I saw a giant glove and ball made of marble. I found a model of the factory. It even had a baseball bat on the outside. There was another brick mural. Then I got excited because I found a room full of Legos. There were models of lots of baseball stadiums and even players made all from black Legos. There were pictures on the wall. I thought they were paintings until I looked closely at them. They were all made of Legos. I saw a case
with a glass bat and a Lego bat. Do you think you could really hit a ball with either of those bats?
I went next to the Kentucky science center. I played in an ambulance, drove a bus and sat in another space capsule. I played on a Junior sized teeter totter. And got scared by some giant polar bears. This place reminded me of the Lawrence Hall of Science but there was no giant whale to play on. I had another good day. Aloha from Junior
